Incorporated in1682 as part of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, transferred to Rhode Island in 1746.
The town of Little Compton is located in Newport County, Rhode Island, and is approximately 35 minutes from Newport. The coastal gem, lauded for its bucolic country roads and sweeping views, is bounded by Tiverton to the north; the Sakonnet River to the east; Rhode Island Sound to the south, and by the state of Massachusetts to the east.
Factoid: Little Compton is home to Gray’s Store, one of the oldest operating stores in the country, in addition to the oldest and largest winery in New England, Sakonnet Vineyards.
